Turn-key Apps & Platforms
Hopways was developed to make school commutes easier for kids and their parents through a subscription service. The project caters to parents, especially those with a bit more disposable income, who want a reliable way to get their children to school regularly or on specific days.
To provide top-notch service, Hopways carefully selects drivers with solid experience. Each driver goes through an extensive application process, filling out a detailed form and submitting the necessary documents (find an example here). After that, they have an interview and a thorough check to ensure they meet all the requirements.
As part of this project, we created a fresh new website for Hopways using WordPress, along with user-friendly portals for parents and drivers.
In the parent portal, users can see a weekly schedule that shows pick-up and drop-off times, addresses, and driver details. Parents can easily export this schedule as a PDF, check past trips, cancel rides if needed, and review invoices. Plus, they can track their child’s ride in real-time on a map, and if they need help, they can submit a support ticket through Hubspot and get quick responses right in the portal. They can also request additional trips outside their subscription.
At the same time, drivers have their own portal where they can view their schedules, including details like pick-up and drop-off info and parent contacts. They can opt out of trips, request extra fees if they incur tolls or other expenses, and keep track of their payments. Both parents and drivers have personal profiles: parents can share information about their children, including any special needs, while drivers upload their licenses, vehicle info, and photos.
Some of the features in the portals are powered by Way-Plan, a service that helps manage drivers. Drivers can install an app on their phones that syncs with the system, allowing managers to track where the vehicle is during trips. This integration also helps manage assignments, like allocating drivers to specific trips, canceling missions, and even giving bonuses for cancellations. The portals pull mission data from Way-Plan’s API, so both parents and drivers always have the latest information.
On the technical side, we built Hopways’ main site (https://www.hopways.com/) using WordPress (including custom design by the WDEVS team). The portals (https://app.hopways.com/login) were developed with Laravel, Vue 3, and Inertia.js. The project runs on AWS, and we handle email communications through Microsoft Graph API, integrating with services like Way-Plan, Pennylane, and Hubspot to keep everything running smoothly.
